ABOUT

Céline Struger (born 1982 in Klagenfurt) is an Austrian artist working in sculpture and site-specific art. Her work examines how spatial conditions, material processes, ritual, image circulation and collective narratives shape the experience and imagination of place. Her practice combines contextual and archival research and sculptural intervention with a particular focus on cultural memory and historically charged sites. Water is a recurring sculptural medium through which reflection, corrosion, sedimentation and transformation become part of the work.

The artist inquires cultural constructs such as sacrality, familiarity and nostalgia and explores how places embody meaning and memory within an ever-changing world. She investigates the agency of non-human entities—buildings, deserted sites, and materials—and their relation with human presence. Within this realm of spatial existence, water serves both as medium and metaphor, inscribing time into matter and evoking the unconscious and the uncanny.
