Robertina Šebjanič
ABOUT
Robertina Šebjanič (*1975), based in Ljubljana, is an artist whose practice drifts through the fluid thresholds of ecology, (geo)politics, and culture, attuned to the rhythms and ruptures of aquatic worlds. Her award-winning works navigate the intertidal zones between species, and bringing to the surface the submerged voices of oceans and rivers.
In her analysis of the Anthropocene and its theoretical framework, the artist uses the term Aquatocene that speaks to humanity’s imprint on marine ecologies, on the sonic, chemical, and living strata of aquatic environments. Through installations, performances, and sound, Šebjanič listens to what lies beneath, proposing ways of sensing, relating, and caring beyond terrestrial confines.
